Book Review - Vampire AcademyIn preparation for the upcoming Spirit Bound, book five of the Vampire Academy series, the first title has been re-released in a special hardcover signature edition, limited to 100,000 copies. Aside from having the author’s signature embossed on the cover, what makes this edition stand out is the tease at the back, fans will look forward to a sneak peak at the first chapter of Spirit Bound.

For readers unfamiliar with this popular young adult series, it starts with best friends Rose, a half human-half vampire who acts as bodyguard to Lissa, a vampire princess being captured and returned to St. Vladimir’s Academy after two years living on the lam.

Reprimanded and having to reestablish old ties, the girls struggle with the typical teen issues of peer pressure, depression, embarrassment and more. What makes Lissa and Rose’s friendship special is the mental bond they share, something that had not been seen between a Moroi and Dhampir in years. As Lissa struggles to find what her particular gift might be, what emerges is a power as unusual as the bond she shares with Rose and there are forces at work that will do anything to possess them both.

Whether you are looking for a good read to tie you over to the next Twilight or Chicago Vampires fix or just interested in a solid, teen oriented vampire series, this engaging title is a good choice. Strong character building and relationships coupled with a convincing history and plenty of action will keep the pages turning to the last. Don’t forget the tease chapter at the end.
