Indian cookbook for Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay, the man who made the F-word synonymous with food on Hell’s Kitchen and more recently, with MasterChef USA on Star World, is expected to launch a cookbook with Indian recipes that he learnt on his culinary tour of the country two years ago. “I’ve been fascinated by Indian cookery ever since I was a kid,” says Ramsay. “My mother introduced me to the cuisine three decades ago. I must thank her because Indian cuisine has turned out to be one of my most favourite cuisines in the world.” On his first tour of the country, he shot a three-part series for Channel 4 in the UK, Gordon’s Great Escape. It became one of the most watched shows on the channel last year in January.

Ramsay stayed in the country for six weeks, touring metro cities to small towns, five-star kitchens to roadside eateries. “From embracing vegetarianism to cooking street food in Kolkata, I packed so much into my trip. The book is a compilation of recipes inspired by the areas I visited and the chefs I cooked with,” he informs.

Considering that the footballer turned restaurateur, today one of the best-known chefs in the world, toured several parts of the country, is there a particular Indian region that he’s highlighted in his paperback? “I’ve included everything from the spicy coconut-based curries to the Rajasthani creamy dishes. Narrowing down the dishes was near impossible,” says Ramsay, who turned producer this year with the shortest season of MasterChef in the US. “I hope to give the readers a flavour of all different styles that I’ve sampled along the way during my month-and-a-half long journey.”
